Stop looking like a deer in the headlights. You CAN use video to grow your business.
I want you to lose the fear of video marketing. Whether it's Facebook Live, pre-recorded video, webinars or e-course tutorials.
Video helps your clients get to know and love you and your message. It makes them more likely to buy your product or service. People have an emotional response to video that they don't have to words on a page. It's the next best thing to meeting you in person (and for the introverts - the BEST thing!) Click To Tweet
And then there are amazing statistics such as:
- Facebook video posts get 30% more reach than text/photos alone
- Facebook Live is getting 10 x the newsfeed space than other posts - FOR FREE!
- 78% people online watch videos each week and 55% watch video every day
- Using the word 'video' in and email subject line increases people opening the email by 65%
- Having video on your website will increase time people stay on there by 2 minutes or more (which is excellent for your Google love)
Still Shaking With Fear?
If you have a paralysing fear of video marketing for your business, it's for one (or several) of the following reasons:
- You're waiting to lose 5kg. You want your hair and makeup done professionally. You want to fix your teeth, have a fake tan, get Botox, lip fillers, fake eyelashes.
- You think your message isn't good enough, others have already said it - 'who's going to want to see mine?'
- Then there are the introverts – 'I can't get online - people will see me!'
- Or you just feel so nervous you can't make yourself do it - you'd rather poke yourself in the eye
But the biggest hairiest reason people have a fear of video marketing?
They hate public speaking.
I want to reassure you.
All the reasons you're afraid of public speaking simply DON'T apply to video marketing!
Let’s bust some of those myths so you can get your lovely self on video ASAP.
Top 5 reasons you can let go of that fear:
Here are the top reasons people give me for hating public speaking...and why they are NOT the same as getting your message on video.
1. I'm scared I'll say the wrong thing
Worried you'll mispronounce something, lose your train of thought, or stutter your way through the introduction? No problem. Press stop and restart 'til you feel comfortable. Don't aim for 100% because you will notice things other people won't.
You have permission to do this as many times as you like. No one is telling you to do a video in one take and publish it. (And if they are tell them to shove it.)
2. I'm too nervous!
So take your time, practice your nerve busting techniques and get on with it.
In a nutshell:
BIG deep breath into the bottom of your lungs (you should feel your ribs expand)
Focus on the purpose of your video
Say it out loud until you feel used to the sound of your voice
Repeat as many times as you like until you are not feeling quite so hideous
3. I'm scared of what people will think of me
There's no live audience with video.
No hecklers, no one looking bored that you suddenly notice in the front row. No one falling asleep (ahem...that has actually happened to me, career highlight), and no late comers interrupting your train of thought.
And if you publish a video, those nerves about 'was it good enough?' are normal. Use your online groups to vent, ask some friends to leave gorgeous comments, and focus on the positive feedback you'll get.
4. I don't like the way I look
When you record your marketing videos, you get to choose what to wear, and how much of you makes it to the screen.
You don't even have to stand up - sit in your most comfy chair if you like, sit outside under a tree.
It's your video and you get to choose. Wear something comfy, something that makes you feel good. No one's seeing lower than my neck really, so I could be wearing trackies and ugg boots for all you know.
5. But I'm an introvert
And for all those introverts out there - guess what?! There are PLENTY of online legends that produce some of the best training videos THAT ARE INTROVERTS! I think it's safe to say that if you ask your favourite online gurus and mentors you'll find plenty of introverts amongst them. But their videos change lives and educate loads of us for the better.
If you're an introvert, video is a fantastic medium for you. No audience, no interaction, no hecklers. Just you, your message, your online audience. Only one person at a time watches a video, not a whole bunch of faceless people.
The Imaginary Friend Technique
BONUS TIP: If it helps, employ my imaginary friend technique.
Imagine the most supportive best friend you can possibly conjure up. Someone who believes completely in everything you do. You can direct your message to that person. It's your very own stage, you are the main actor and your audience loves every thing you say.
